  • Hand-Held Macro photograph of a dragonfly clutching a stem of a plant at Greenwood Conservation Area in Ajax, Ontario. It was a very windy afternoon and the dragonfly was holding on tight as it was being buffeted around. Combined with the bright mid-day sun and hand-held close-up, this was a difficult shot to obtain.

  • Macro photograph of a Green Frog (Rana clamitans) found in a small tributary stream to Little Rouge Creek on a warm fall day, Pickering, Ontario, Canada

  • Macro photograph of a White-faced Meadowhawk Dragonfly. Photograph taken in the forests of the Kawarthas region of Ontario. This insect was quite accommodating toward the camera, staying close by and often landing upon the same spot when accidentally spooked by my movements. He liked my camera so much that we ended the photo shoot when he alighted upon the end of my lens hood as if to taunt me, before flying off.

  • Green Frog (Rana clamitans), sitting on a decaying stump nearby to the Little Rouge Creek, Toronto, Ontario.<br />

Note the mosquito alighted upon the grog just above the frog's mouth. Is it prey or is it biting the frog? Hard to tell. But gutsy.

  • The Common Loon is found acrross almost all of Canada in the summer months and is the Provincial bird of Ontario. This loon was photographed on Patricia Lake in Jasper National Park. I have never been able to get as close to Loons in Ontario Lakes as I have been able to at Patricia Lake and nearby Pyramid Lake. This one was swimming around and diving for fish in shallow waters maybe 100 feet from where I was standing.

  • Columbian Ground Squirrels are reportedly the most commonly seen animal in Jasper National park during the summer months. The hibernate for up to seven months but are still an important source of food for predators. This one seen here has just finished off a peanut thrown to it by a child.

  • This owl was sitting on a fencepost at the side of Highway 40 west of Longview, Alberta. We observed a few of this owl's hopelessly unsuccesful attempts at hunting its dinner in the grasses below before leaving it be for the evening.

  • Common Ravens have among the largest brains of any bird species and are intelligent showing insight and problem solving abilities. It has been hypothesized that ravens are one of only four known animals (including humans) that can communicate to each other about things that are located at distance and/or in the past.
