  • The Canadian Pacific's famous Morant's Curve in the Canadian Rockies as seen on a winter's morning. Located just east of Lake Louise in Banff National Park, this spot is popular with train spotters who come to see the CPR freight trains or the occasional passenger train on the S-curve with the Bow River and Mount Temple and other mountains in the distance. I have come here a few times first thing in the morning, while still dark outside to set-up for the sunrise and hopefully catch a train travelling eastbound. But with no luck with regard to the trains.

  • The Common Loon is found acrross almost all of Canada in the summer months and is the Provincial bird of Ontario. This loon was photographed on Patricia Lake in Jasper National Park. I have never been able to get as close to Loons in Ontario Lakes as I have been able to at Patricia Lake and nearby Pyramid Lake. This one was swimming around and diving for fish in shallow waters maybe 100 feet from where I was standing.

  • Tangle Falls is located right off of the Icefields Parkway in Jasper National Park, just north of the Athabaska Glacier. I captured this image under less than ideal circumstances, around noon hour on a sunny summer's day. I waited for at least half an hour for a cumulus cloud to finally block the sun so that I could photograph these falls in somewhat diffuse light. A 10 stop ND filter was used to allow for a 2 second exposure so that the water would be blurred.

  • Common Ravens have among the largest brains of any bird species and are intelligent showing insight and problem solving abilities. It has been hypothesized that ravens are one of only four known animals (including humans) that can communicate to each other about things that are located at distance and/or in the past.

  • Columbian Ground Squirrels are reportedly the most commonly seen animal in Jasper National park during the summer months. The hibernate for up to seven months but are still an important source of food for predators. This one seen here has just finished off a peanut thrown to it by a child.

  • One of the grand views of the Canadian Rockies in the distance about a 1 hour's drive southwest of Calgary. This is a favorite spot of mine to photograph as the view from the top of this hill is fantastic, and there is very little traffic to boot.
